9/29
Observation- teaching middle school or any age students is all about establishing order and haveing clear rules and guidelines for how the class should go.

Analysis- this is the second time that this has come up. the way you structure your class room will make or break you with having a successful year.

Action- continue to gather ideas and understand how and when certain rules are implemented.

Jr. High Observation 2

I went to North Sanpete middle school in North Sanpete school district. I contacted Mr. O'dee Hansen the Principal and he set me up with the CTE/Buisness teacher Carey Ivory. I spent 2 hours with Carey Ivory. The firs hour was her prep hour and i was able to talk with her and find out some of her opinions of CTE today. Her main focus in the first part of the year is to teach the kids how to type. She felt that this is the bases for better computer skills. The district has completely removed this as a requirement so she has integrated it into her corse curriculum. I found her teaching methods refreshing. Mrs Ivory said she spends the first two weeks working on house keeping witch I love this idea. She feels that if she does this, the kids work better and she has less distractions. At one point the students were asked to get up and get something form their bags and almost all of the students got up and pushed in their chairs. She told me this is one the house keeping rules that she works on. It was obvious that it worked. I enjoyed my time with Carey and would love to spend more time observing her.

Observation notes 9/22 Ephraim Middle School Mr. Halling

Observation notes: I'm unable to finish the FED form the site"www.usoe.org" does not work. the classroom ambiance was relaxed. Mr Halling was very excited to show me the STEM Lab that they are using right now. He allowed me to wander around the class and asked the students to spend a moment telling me what they are doing. They have 15 diffrent stations that the kids rotate through and learn about different technology and engineering concepts. From what i could see Mr Hallings instructional strategies is to allow the kids to work at their own pace. He was more interested in what they learned then how much they completed. Mr Halling was well dressed with a button shirt and slacks on. the students seem to be enjoying the labs and were excited to explain to me what they have been learning.

This week's observation: teaching requires you to use a moral compass in order to guide the students

Analysis: Work on understandingwhat direction that moral compasupport needs to piont

Action: gather rules and other guidelines that teachers are using to help with guidelines for when I'm teaching. Remember to understand where the students are coming from and to make the plans best fit the school amd students.

Pay attention to the needs of the community and the kids themselves.
Every once in a while a white lie can change a kids life.

Write a reflection/capture of what you learned that week in class, be it from lectures, reading, observations, etc. Note: a capture is a critical analysis of what you were exposed to, not a simple dialog, but rather a critique.
